“The Auxiliary started this collection and I think the Health Center would be barren without it. We
think the art supports the people who work here, the patients, the families and the community. We think it gives the Health Center a visual power that makes people feel good.”
Linda Webber
UConn Health Center Art Curator The Auxiliary started collecting art for patient rooms, clinic rooms and hallways in 1979. We formed the Art Advisory Committee, which included local
artists, art faculty from UConn and other Connecticut universities, Health Center employees and auxiliary board members. This committee solicited local artists for donations to the
Health Center collection. In 1984, we donated all the art to the Health Center. Today the collection includes more than 1,500 paintings, sculptures, quilts, photographs and murals, and
it continues to grow.
The Celeste LeWitt Gallery, in the rear of the Food Court at the UConn Health Center, has rotating art shows.
